Programme Overview

The Fellowship in Diabetes Mellitus is an advanced training program designed for healthcare professionals who wish to specialize in the management of diabetes. This fellowship provides comprehensive knowledge and practical skills in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diabetes and its complications. The curriculum covers a wide range of topics, including the pathophysiology of diabetes, advanced glycemic management, lifestyle interventions, and the use of technology in diabetes care. Participants will engage in clinical rotations, case discussions, and research activities, equipping them to become experts in diabetes care and leaders in the field.

Programme Structure


1. Deepen Understanding of Diabetes Pathophysiology:

-Gain in-depth knowledge of the mechanisms underlying the development and progression of different types of diabetes.

-Understand the role of genetics, lifestyle, and environmental factors in the etiology of diabetes.

2. Master Glycemic Management:

-Develop expertise in the use of pharmacological and non-pharmacological strategies for optimal glycemic control.

-Learn to tailor treatment plans based on individual patient characteristics, including age, comorbidities, and lifestyle

3. Prevent and Manage Complications:

-Acquire skills in the early detection and management of acute and chronic complications of diabetes, such as diabetic neuropathy, nephropathy, and retinopathy.

-Implement strategies for preventing complications through patient education and regular monitoring.

4. Incorporate Technology in Diabetes Care:

-Utilize the latest technologies, such as continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), insulin pumps, and telemedicine, to enhance diabetes management.

-Stay updated on emerging innovations and their application in clinical practice.

5. Promote Lifestyle Interventions:

-Advocate for and implement evidence-based lifestyle modifications, including diet, exercise, and behavior change, as key components of diabetes management.

-Develop personalized lifestyle intervention plans to support long-term glycemic control and overall health.



By the end of the fellowship, participants will be able to:

1. Provide Expert Diabetes Care:

-Deliver specialized care to patients with diabetes, including complex cases requiring advanced therapeutic interventions.

2. Optimize Glycemic Control:

-Design and implement individualized treatment plans that achieve and maintain optimal glycemic levels, reducing the risk of complications.

3. Manage Complications Effectively:

-Identify and treat acute and chronic complications of diabetes with a high degree of proficiency, minimizing their impact on patient quality of life.

4. Leverage Technology for Better Outcomes:

-Lead interdisciplinary teams in the ICU, fostering collaboration and ensuring coordinated, patient-centered care.

5. Advocate for Preventive and Lifestyle Measures:

-Integrate cutting-edge technology into clinical practice to enhance monitoring, treatment adherence, and patient engagement.

6. Exhibit Leadership in Critical Care Environments:

-Lead initiatives that promote lifestyle changes and preventive measures as fundamental components of diabetes care.
